Zinc pyrithione(Cas 13463-41-7) Usage
Product Description |
Zinc pyrithione is a coordination complex of zinc that possesses fungistatic and bacteriostatic properties. It is primarily used in the treatment of conditions such as seborrheic dermatitis and dandruff. Zinc pyrithione is typically a white to yellow crystalline powder that may have a slight characteristic odor. It is insoluble in water. In terms of solubility, it is sparingly soluble in water but more soluble in ethanol. It is also soluble in polyethylene glycol (PEG400). The pH of water solutions with zinc pyrithione can vary depending on the concentration. |
Uses |
Zinc pyrithione has fungistatic and bacteriostatic properties, making it effective in controlling dandruff. Beyond its use in personal care products, zinc pyrithione has demonstrated antimicrobial properties against various bacteria and the fungus Pityrosporum ovale. It is used in various cosmetic products, including gels, creams, lotions, talcum powder, and anti-dandruff shampoos. It also serves as a cosmetic preservative, as well as a biocide in oil and paint formulations. |

Indications |
Zinc pyrithione is the active ingredient in several shampoos used to control dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis and is also effective in the therapy of tinea versicolor. It remains unclear whether the beneficial effects are caused by an antiproliferative or antimicrobial effect or both. It is substantive to the hair, allowing continued therapeutic effect after washing. |
